About

Have you heard of 22q Chromosomal Duplication? Neither had I… Until both my children and myself were diagnosed with it. Now, I’m an advocate for raising awareness, One shirt at a time!

When my son was diagnosed with 22q chromosomal duplication in 2017, I never could have imagined the whirlwind of information I was met with for 22q chromosomal DELETION, but barely anything was known about the Duplication. We were faced with the reality that my children and I have, and have always had, extra DNA in our 22nd chromosome. In my sons case, it manifested in autism, ADHD, sensory processing issues, and a small lower jaw. My daughter was born with a chiari 1 malformation of her brain and also has ADHD. I, having been raised as the only “neuro-typical” child in my family, was surprised to see that I had the duplication as well, and that I had given it to my children. All my struggles growing up made sense, all my sensory issues finally clicked. So, instead of wallowing in the knowledge that 22q is the most common chromosomal duplication after Downs Syndrome, and yet, nobody has heard of it… I decided to fire up my cricut and heat press and started off on an adventure to raise awareness in my own way; making shirts! Since then, my passion has turned into so much more and I can’t wait to see how far we can take this!
